Our designer Satu describes the birth of simply nuppu like this:

“For a long time, I’ve been thinking that I would love to create another world alongside Nuppu’s familiar patterns—a parallel reality, so to speak. When it comes to certain things, I am a fan of a rather abstract visual language based on the play of shapes. After letting the idea simmer for long enough, I decided to see what Nuppu would look like through a different lens. To celebrate our tenth anniversary, it felt like the perfect starting point to reopen the files of our very first collection, Sydäntalvi (Heart of Winter). That is how the first simply nuppu collection was born.

With simply nuppu, I absolutely wanted to preserve all the details that build the story of our collections—the ones that people admire and fall in love with year after year. I explored and experimented with how the patterns could lean into a more abstract direction, how they could begin to embody a rhythm based on shapes rather than precisely drawn objects, and just how far I could simplify a pattern while still retaining its essence—the core of what it’s known for. This dialogue between shapes and colors ultimately led to a realization: different colorways of the same pattern can vary significantly. What could be more delightful and intriguing than always finding something new to look at and admire in a familiar story!

Since the color palettes took on the most critical role in the simply nuppu designs, I wanted to use them to create unique, meticulously thought-out combinations. That is why the simply nuppu fabrics feature a colored selvage tailored to match and complement the pattern's color scheme. Personally, I think the selvage could be beautifully utilized as a detail in clothing or accessories—in straps, shoulder bands, pocket edges, or ribbons—but I can’t wait to see what you will create with it!”
